About the country

Nardò is a beautiful city in the province of Lecce, located in the Puglia region of southern Italy. The city has a rich historical and cultural heritage, making it a perfect place for tourists who wish to immerse themselves in the local culture.

The historic center is characterized by narrow alleys, inner courtyards and squares. Its streets are lined with old Baroque-style palaces, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, which testify to the city’s glorious past. Among the most significant attractions in the historic center are the Cathedral, the Church of San Domenico, and the Palace of the Prince of Galatina.

Nardò is also famous for its culinary tradition, based mainly on Apulian cuisine. The city offers a wide choice of restaurants, where you can enjoy typical dishes such as orecchiette con le cime di rapa, eggplant alla parmigiana, burrata and pasticciotto leccese. It is also known for its local products, such as olive oil, wine and cheese.

Nardò is also an ideal starting point for discovering the Salento coast, with its sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Some of the most beautiful beaches in the area include Porto Selvaggio, Santa Caterina and Torre Lapillo.

About the property

About 1 km from the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea rests an old farmhouse dating back to 1800, with a 16th-century tower. It has 2000 m2 of built area, a tennis court, 2 swimming pools and 3 hectares of land.

The masseria in perfect condition and currently used as an agritourism, basically tourist accommodation at a farm’s estate, which helps farmers to continue running a small-scale farm, instead of an industrial-scale farm.

This splendid property represents the typical rural building settlement of the time in Apulia, already present as witnessed by some documents of the time in the cadastre onciario of 1750.

It is characterized by the presence of ancient star vaults made of tuff from the quarries of Avetrana, thick perimeter walls of tuff finished with lime, dry stone walls define its boundary and typical plants of Mediterranean vegetation frame it in a perfect combination of rusticity and old charm.

The main body at the entrance is spread over two levels, giving it a regal and imposing appearance. Its numerous rooms have vaulted ceilings on the ground floor part and barrel ceilings on the upper part. There are numerous details that hark back to the masseria life, such as the stables with their mangers now used as guest rooms, the spacious halls, and the twelve fireplaces in different rooms.

The upper part has always represented the manor house with three bedrooms, a large living room overlooking the sea, a kitchen with fireplace, two bathrooms and two beautiful terraces. There are 12 rooms, now used as accommodation, each with attached private bathroom and ante-bathroom.

The current stables could be converted into another eight very spacious rooms or be a relaxation area for the guests of the facility should it continue to be used as an accommodation facility. The restaurant area is very large and could accommodate a hundred people.

It is equipped with bathrooms with access for the disabled and a huge equipped industrial-type kitchen for preparing meals for guests equipped with a fireplace and oven, dressing rooms and attached bathrooms for staff. The property is completed by an area reserved for laundry serving the facility.

The large covered square footage allows for several new rooms or common spaces for guests, therefore, the potential of the masseria is considerable. Two large swimming pools with a view of the tower provide the right refreshment on sultry Salento summer days.

The land is about 1 hectare and is arable; one space is dedicated to horseback riding. In addition, there is a tennis court, large areas designated for parking and camping area currently unused.

The farmhouse with characteristic rural features does not need major renovation. The last intervention was carried out in 2001. It is equipped with facilities according to standards and has agibility as well as all the necessary certifications, authorizations and licenses for agritourism activities.

A unique property with great potential, which through a conservative restoration, recovery and expansion, aimed at enhancing the historical and cultural value of the masseria, would restore the property to its former glory, giving it uniqueness, strong also by its location, just 900 mt from the beaches of the Ionian Sea, 29 km from the baroque city Lecce and 62 km from Brindisi airport.
